Brook Drumm wins Wired.Com Fueling Innovation Contest

Thanks to the phenomenal support of our fans, backers, friends and supporters, Brook is the first winner of Wired.com and Mercedes-Benz’s Fueling Innovation contest!

The contest, designed to identify the top ten innovators who are paving engineering’s future, selected Brook in their first round for his invention: the Printrbot. Despite being stacked up against nine other exceptional inventors, the Printrbot received astonishing support and dedicated voting throughout the contest, especially on Kickstarter.com, where backers encouraged one another to vote and spread the word about 3D printing.  The result was that towards the end of the contest, Brook’s vote “fuel gauge” was literally off the chart.

As promised, the $2500 prize will go toward five Printrbot+ printers that will be donated to five schools. Stay updated for the contest announcement that will determine the lucky schools.

Congratulations to Brook on this distinguished recognition, and our sincerest thanks to everyone for voting.

-The Printrbot Team

Please please please don’t restrict the donations to US schools. There were a lot of international supporters for this and the distribution should reflect that. I’d love to get one into the hands of my daughters school here in Sydney!!

Congrats! I took full advantage of Chicago rules voting, but it is well deserved.

That’s great, my wife is a teacher in Kalamazoo, Mi, you guys could send one her way.
Her school is a part of the kalamazoo promise, where students that get good grades can get college paid for.

Finally I can stop voting! Congrats!

I’m in the US but I wouldn’t mind seeing 1 go to a school in a foreign country.

Tell us the contest already! I want to get my school working on it ASAP! :D

To be fair we should submit our schools name and they should all be put in a hat and drawn at random.

I think a contest makes sense because it allows schools to prove that they need/will use the 3d Printer to its utmost extent. A lottery system could end up with a school getting a printrbot and then never truly utilizing it’s potential. A contest system, if designed correctly, ensures maximum printrbot -> awesomeness output.

Just want to say congratulations on your achievement and thank you for putting resources towards a noble cause. I would have loved to have access to such a brilliant device when I was in school, and I’m glad you’re giving that opportunity to a new generation. Cheers!

    Brook,
Congrats on the win! We were all pulling for you. This is really a pioneering venture. Can’t wait to get my Printrbot Plus. Best of luck deciding how to distribute the kits from this BIG WIN.

i agree with some of the other people that a few bots should be donated to out of country schools. Im born and raised in the USA but i know there are a lot of other people who supported this win that are not so its only fair.
