Since a photo of this version of the Printrbot was posted on the Flickr, I thought i would elaborate. This is proof that a 3D printer can be printed without using threaded rod for structural support. I will go ahead and finish out this version for fun – trying to get the vitamin (bolts, buts, washers) count down to a minimum. This mod alone drops the Printrbot’s final part count down by 34 parts! But for now, the sacrifice was too great. With some time to redesign, I can strengthen it…. but the print time for the 4 base parts is probably 4 hours – give or take.
The Printrbot jr. will be the real deal, though…. smaller without threaded rods and a much faster print time, but still really solid.
